Blue Sky Events

Those planning a wedding will soon discover that it takes a great group of professionals to create an amazing wedding day.  As a bride and groom, you cannot rely solely on one vendor or another to make it all happen.  It is a huge team effort.  With that in mind we are going to regularly highlight some of the local vendors that make magic happen every time they come to our venues.

Our first vendor that we spoke with was Kerry Hawk, co-owner of Blue Sky Events, a wedding and event planning company in Lake Tahoe.  Check out her Lake Tahoe and wedding insights below, as she answers our questions along with some photos from a couple of the weddings she coordinated at Heavenly.  Learn more about Kerry Hawk and the Blue Sky Events team at

What’s your favorite local restaurant?

Blue Angle Café on Ski Run Blvd is my favorite “go to” restaurant!  I love the healthy California cuisine and how they make everyone feel like family as you walk through the doors.  The lounge setting next to the fireplace is my favorite place to warm up in the winter with a latte and check my emails, and the nostalgic vintage ski décor makes me feel right at home!

What’s your favorite local charity?

Valhalla Tahoe is very close to my heart.  I sit on the Executive Board and volunteer my time for this non-profit association, which restores three estates on the Tallac Historic Site and produces the only Arts and Music Festival on the South Shore of Lake Tahoe.   The Boat House Theater is home to several local productions every summer, from a local Improve that packs the house to holding fundraisers such as Motherhood Outloud coming out in May on Mothers Day weekend.  My favorite events are free music on the lawn every week in the summer.  Over looking Lake Tahoe, we lay our blankets under the tall sierra pines, while enjoying a picnic and listening to local tunes!  I love knowing I am a part of supporting the local arts and theater along with assisting to restore a significant heritage area in the Lake Tahoe region.

What is your favorite fun thing to do in Tahoe?

My favorite activity is snowboarding!  I am fortunate to have the Tahoe Epic Pass so I get to enjoy Northstar, Heavenly and Kirkwood all winter long.  It’s a family affair; my husband and I love to snowboard together and our sons are learning to ski too.  When I am not spending time planning weddings in the winter you will find me on the slopes.  We spend as many days on the mountain as we can, whether we are watching our kids in a ski competition, having a work meeting on the lift or enjoying a few powder runs before the work day begins.  Other than planning events and weddings, my passion is being outside in mountains, snowboarding in the winter and hiking in the summer!

Do you have secret vice or indulgence? What is it?

A good bottle of wine while watching an amazing Tahoe sunset!

What are you most grateful for in life?

I am most grateful for the love surrounding me every day from my family, including my husband and two boys, and my extended family near and far, and for the community of friends and associates we have here in Lake Tahoe.

If you were to plan your own wedding, or re-do your wedding, what elements would be most important to you?

I didn't hire a professional videographer for our wedding, which I regret now.  I also decided not to have the photographer produce an album.  Now that it is many years later I would say that the video and a professional album would be nice to have to easily reflect on the memories.

What advice would you give to brides and grooms getting married today?

I would advise you to understand your guest count and your budget first and foremost, before reserving your venue and booking your vendors.  If you do not know how to come to this, some wedding planners offer this a la carte service to start with.

Why Tahoe for weddings?

Tahoe is the perfect place for a destination wedding because it has something for everyone! The activities for your guests are endless, including outdoor mountain and water activities, shopping and nightlife, world class shows and music.  Tahoe offers every level of lodging from 5 star accommodations to camping.  For a destination wedding it is really easy for all your guests to fly into the newly remodeled Reno / Tahoe International Airport and either rent a car or take a shuttle to Tahoe, which is only 45 minutes away from the lake.  Some of your guests could enjoy Tahoe so much they might just decide to stay!  And, did I mention the stunning Mountain or Lake Tahoe backdrop for your wedding will be unforgettable!

Anything else you’d like to share with Tahoe Wedding Collection brides?
